Handy Zach's
Final logo and character design for Handy Zach’s Home Services.
Getting handy without the hassle.
I was thrilled to help out my friend Zach when he asked for a business card design for his burgeoning handyman hustle. I knew that in order to have a memorable business card, we also needed to start building out a brand identity.
Handy Zach’s Home Services is for anyone to hire when they need help around the house - from rebuilding porches, to installing tile, or hanging pictures. Zach is a commercial contractor with 12+ years experience and offers a friendly, approachable hand when you don’t want the hassle of hiring a big company. The customer base is a range from new homeowners, people who are aging out of being able to do the work themselves, or anyone who isn’t super handy and needs someone that is!
The design direction from Zach was that it should be friendly and approachable feeling, not stuck up or too industrial, butch or intimidating. No neon greens, yellows or orange that are often seen in construction.
Some of my notes from talking to Zach about his business and quick initial thoughts.
After consulting with Zach, I presented three initial directions for his brand and card. Each had a mini gallery of inspirational images, card mockup and color palette. All concepts aimed to be approachable and align with Zach’s business values, while providing a visual variety to choose from and ultimately narrow down into a final concept.
